Cry Babies

Hey, what’s the deal with officials that get caught up in crying about their schedules?  Everybody wants all the big games.  There’s a lot to be said about the official who just goes out and works and NEVER makes any comments about the games they receive or the schedule they receive.  The official’s schedule is an aspect of the game they cannot control so why would they consume any amount of energy on something they can’t control.  Maybe, just maybe, the better officials get the better games or the better schedule....I’m just saying.  So, as my friend and former Umpire use to say to someone who was bitchin’ about their schedule or games, “Hey, if you don’t like it, get better.”

Great point, no matter how good you are, or “think” you are, there is always room to get better.  For everyday you’re not watching video, getting into your rule book, or getting into physical shape, you competition is.  Remember, the whole profession of officiating is like the word they use in NASCAR, “Coopetition”.  So why we have to work very close with other officials and cooperate, let’s not fool ourselves, they ARE our competition.

Control the things you can control, improve in the things you can control, and stop crying about the things you can’t control.
